Rightmove is the largest UK real-estate portal, listing 800,000 properties for sale and rent throughout England, Scotland and Wales. It features 8 of the 10 largest estate agency groups in the UK. Founded in 2000 by three of UK’s biggest estate agents - Connells, Countrywide, Halifax, Rightmove has better coverage in the regions than in London. Unfortunately it does not allow for-sale-by-owner listings, unlike many other sites.The site is relatively easy to use, and requires just two clicks to see the properties in a particular location. However, like most other sites, you cannot search for streets. Refining by other criteria is possible on the search results page (price, bedrooms, etc). The information is somewhat outdated, and approximately a third of the properties we’ve looked at have already been sold. Nevertheless, the comprehensive database somewhat makes up for that.The standard functionality is available, however we found the provided maps to be really slow and poor quality, It’s difficult to understand why they didn’t simply use google maps.The impressive thing about Rightmove is its monthly House Price Index, the most accurate estimate of current market prices available to date. Sold house prices for a particular postcode are also available, however registration is required to access that information.
